A domestic toll-free number is, as the name suggests, domestic or national. This means that a domestic toll-free number can only be called from within ONE country and not from abroad. Therefore, if you want to be available to your international clients via national toll-free numbers, you will need several different toll-free numbers, one for each country in which you wish to be present. Luckily, at TeleForwarding we can provide you with national toll-free numbers in over 100 countries around the world.
Although it might seem a bit of a hassle to get separate toll-free numbers for each country, there are important advantages to using domestic toll-free numbers. The biggest advantage is that domestic toll-free numbers are very well-known with consumers and people recognize these numbers as national numbers they can call for free. For this reason, toll-free numbers are generally well-trusted and associated with customer friendliness and reliability, thereby generating more calls than your local (and for your clients abroad: international) landline would.
Because domestic toll-free numbers are national numbers their appearance or format is determined by a national numbering plan, which means that these numbers have a different format in every country. Even so, in most countries a domestic toll-free number has a prefix containing the number 800, 0800 or 1 800. There are some exceptions such as Spain, which uses the prefix 900 and Japan, where toll-free numbers start with 005.
In most countries it is not possible to request a specific toll-free number, as these numbers are appointed to providers randomly. However, we usually have several toll-free numbers on stock for each country and are happy to let you choose the number of your preference from our own number stock.
